Luke 9:23 and He said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow me
What does it mean to deny yourself? To answer this lets first talk about what it is not! Deny yourself does not mean to become an emotionless person. It also does not mean that we serve in every area we are asked to. It does require that we do things that are outside our comfort zones. It requires us to not give into our natural instincts of self preservation. It requires that to think of the greater good in life. Denying yourself is not flying off the handle when someone pushes you or says something that upsets you.. It is taking the time to see things through a biblical view, seeing things from God’s point of view. Denying yourself is hard. It is so hard that Jesus said we have to do it daily. Jesus knew it would be hard but the way to do it is to follow Him, put HIS will above our desires. Let us challenge each other this week to take up the cross and follow Him.
